Art and Music Festivals 2005, '06 and '07
In order to mark the Centenary of the founding of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Oldmeldrum wanted to organize a new event which would involve members of the community.
In 2005 we ran the first Art and Music Festival, the aims of which were:-
To promote local singers, musicians, artists, and photographers by giving them an opportunity to perform and display their work before an audience.
To encourage people of all ages to have an interest in the arts in general, including painting, photography, playing and listening to music.
To develop skills and offer professional advice.
To encourage awareness of the local environment.
To promote the attractions of Oldmeldrum and the surrounding local area.
The first Festival included events such as :-Young Musician of the Year; Photography Workshop, Display and Competition; Story Telling; Watch the Artist at Work, and Latin American Dancing.
As this proved to be very enjoyable, there were follow-up Festivals run in 2006 and again in 2007, with the second and third Festivals building on the success of the first year. Additional new events included an Art Workshop; Music Workshop for Children; Children's Craft Workshop; African Singing, and a Jamming Session. All of the events were well attended, with locals and visitors enjoying the various and varied art and music experiences on offer.
After three years, Rotary Club members decided that if the Festival was going to continue and develop, more community involvement was required to help with the organising and planning. A meeting was arranged in Oldmeldrum to discuss the future of the Festival. However, the response was very disappointing, and as a result, the only event to be continued will be the Young Musician of the Year Competition.
We would like to say thank you to all Rotarians, family and friends, who helped make the Festival weekends a success. Special thanks to all of the individuals and local business who gave their time, skills and support with the three Festivals. “ Festival Organisers”
